The idea of creating a Gay History Calendar came to me in the mid 1990’s. I realized the majority of people did not take the time to read books about our history but at the same time they were very interested in hearing about it. This is where I came in, I was their talking book. The thought behind the calendar was to design an easy to read format for people to learn and enjoy our history. But with being young and of course life, I put the research aside. I would dust it off a few times over the years but it wasn’t until 2008 when I decided to totally dedicate myself to the project. Since the first thought of the calendar in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania I have since moved to Phoenix, Arizona and with a handful of friends and their encouraging words of support, the calendar started to become a reality.
Once the calendar started to come together, the design of the website started to develop and the thought of a gay internet community came to me. The dream is for the website to grow into this massive hub for our community to gather and learn about our history and about each other. Each and every one of us has had a part in creating where we are today as a community, and I want to hear those stories. I want to create a place for us to gather and to tell our stories, our lives and our experiences, and to locate friends and loved ones from the past and hopefully make some new ones. With your help we can make this into a reality and create an internet community we can call home.
